Australian painter's moody works popular by Yvonne Lai.

Australian painter Tony Lloyd's first solo show in Hong Kong - and Asia - drew a crowd on opening night last Thursday at Cat Street Gallery. Lloyd was part of a 40-plus artist group show earlier at the gallery's adjoining annex The Space, but he was so popular with collectors that Mandy d'Abo, the gallery's owner, thought art lovers would benefit from an exhibition dedicated to Lloyd's atmospheric works of oil on linen canvas. For this show, Lloyd worked with a black and white palette, creating moody scenarios using photo-realism techniques. The subjects are often wild animals and empty rural roads at night. His small format and incredibly detailed paintings of owls in the night were particularly well-loved by gallery-goers.
